(summary)
This book is about an African American family during the years of civil rights. Their father has just bought a new Cadillac to drive down south with. The mother of the family is not happy about this and refuses to ride in the car. She finally gives in and the whole family heads down south in the gold Cadillac to visit their relatives. On the way down people give give them dirty looks because African Americans are not supposed to be that rich. A policeman pulls them over and accuses the father of stealing the car. After this the father decides to sell the car and get a plainer car so people will not harass them.

Este libro es sobre una familia afroamericana durante los años de los derechos civiles. Su padre acaba de comprar un nuevo Cadillac para conducir al sur con la familia. La madre de la familia no es feliz acerca de esto por que ella queria que en vez de comprar el carro se comprara una casa en un mejor vecindario y se niega a montar en el coche. Ella finalmente sede y toda la familia se dirige al sur en el oro Cadillac para visitar a sus familiares. En el camino unos policias los detienen porque creian que el auto era robado y no se suponia que unos afroamericanos tuvieran un carro lujoso. Un policía los detien y acusa al padre de robar el auto. Después de esto el padre decide vender el coche y conseguir un coche usado para no volver a pasar esta experiencia. El padre se da cuenta que es mas valiosa la seguridad de la familia que tener el carro de sus sueños.La historia termina con la compra de un carro menos lujoso y la compra de la nueva casa alegra a todos especialmente a la madre.
